Test Step 1
. Inspect Electrical Connectors
and Wiring
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Thoroughly inspect the ECM connector J2/P2.
Inspect all other connectors that are related to
the circu
it. Refer to Troubleshooting, “Inspecting
Electrical Connectors” for details.
C. Perform a
45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the
wires in the ECM connector that are associated
with the circuit.
D. Check the ECM connector (allen head screw)
for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting,
“Inspec
ting Electrical Connectors” for details.
E. Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion
and for p
inch points.
Expected Result:
All connectors, pins, and sockets are completely
coupled and/or inserted. The harness and wiring are
free of c
orrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points.
Results:
•
OK – The connectors and wiring are OK. Proceed
to Test Step 2.
•
Not OK – There is a problem in the connectors
and/or wiring.
Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or
replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of
thesealsarep
roperly in place and ensure that the
connectors are completely coupled.
Verify that t
he repair eliminates the problem.
STOP.
Test Step 2. Check for an Internal Short
or for an Open in the Engine Oil Renewal
Solenoid’s Coil
A. Disconnect
the connector of the engine oil renewal
solenoid.
B. Measure the
resistance of the coil by measuring
the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2
of the connector.
Expected Result:
The resista
nce is between 32 and 53 Ohms.
Results:
•
OK – The resistance is between 32 and 53 Ohms.
The resistance is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
•
Not OK – The resistance is not between 32 and 53
Ohms. The resistance measurement indicates an
open or a sh
orted coil. The resistance is incorrect.
Repair: The coil of the solenoid is internally
shorted or
open. Replace the solenoid.
STOP.
Test Step 3. C heck the Voltage at the
Engine Oil Renewal Solenoid
A. Connect C
aterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to
the service tool connector.
B. Turn the k
eyswitch to the ON position.
C. Start Cat ET.
D. Selecttheoverridefortheengineoilrenewal
solenoid on Cat ET.
E. Set the override for the engine oil renewal solenoid
to 100 percent.
