Troubleshooting Section
•
Not OK – One of the following conditions exists:
The 05 diagnost
ic code is not active when the
wires or wire from the suspect relay are open at
the ECM connector. The 06 diagnostic code is not
active when th
e wires or wire from the suspect
relay are shorted at the ECM connector.
Repair: Repl
ace the ECM. Refer to
Troubleshooting, “Replacing the ECM”.
Verify that the problem is resolved.
STOP.
Test Step 8. C
heck the Voltage at the
Ether Solen
oid(s)
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the ether solenoid connector at the
solenoid(s).
C. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 1 and terminal 2
of the ether solenoid connector(s).
D. Turn the k eyswitch to the ON position.
NOTICE
Do not allow
the ether injection system to be on for
more than two minutes. Damage to the ether solenoid
may occur.
E. Activate the ether override and observe the
voltmeter while ether injection is activated.
F. Disable the ether override.
G. Reconnect
all connectors.
Expected Result:
The voltage at the ether solenoid(s) is 24 ± 3 VDC
during the first two seconds of injection. The voltage
at the ethe
r solenoid(s) decreases to 5 ± 3 VDC after
the first two seconds of injection.
Results:
•
OK – The voltage is approximately 24 ± 3 VDC
for the fi
rst two seconds of injection. The voltage
then decreases to 5 ± 3 VDC for the remainder
of injection.
Repair: If ether is not being injected, replace
the ether sol enoid(s). Verify that the system is
operatin
gcorrectly.
STOP.
•
Not OK - 24 VDC – The voltage did not measure
24 ± 3 VDC for the
first two seconds of injection.
Verify that wire 200-BK has continuity to ground.
If wire 200-BK has continuity to ground, proceed
to test step 9.
•
Not OK - 3 VDC – The voltage is approximately
24 ± 3 VDC for t
he first two seconds of injection.
The voltage did not decrease to 5 ± 3 VDC for the
remainder of the injection duration. Proceed to test
step 9.
Test Step 9. Check the Battery Voltage
to the Ether Start Relay and to the Ether
Hold Relay
A. Disconnect the connector for the ether start relay
and the connector for the ether hold relay.
B. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 of the
connector for the ether start relay and ground.
C. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 of the
connector for the ether hold relay and ground.
Expected Result:
The voltag
emeasures24±3VDC.
Results:
•
OK - Ether start relay – The voltage measures 24
± 3 VDC at the connector for the ether start relay.
Repair: Disconnect wire 317-YL from terminal 4 of
the connector for the ether start relay. Reconnect
the conne
ctor for the ether start relay.
If voltage is not present on terminal 4 of the
connecto
r for the ether start relay, replace the ether
start relay. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Reactiva
te the ether override and check for voltage
on terminal 4 of the connector for the ether start
relay.
If voltage is present on terminal 4 of the connector
for the ether start relay, repair the wire 317-YL
between
the connector for the ether start relay and
the ether solenoid(s).
STOP.
•
OK - Ether hold relay – The voltage measures 24
±3VDCat
the connector for the ether hold relay.
Reconnect the connector for the ether hold relay.
Proceed to Test Step 10.
•
Not OK – The voltage does not measure 24 ± 3
VDC.
