D. Select the “Diagnostic Tests” on C at ET.
NOTICE
Do not allow the ether injection system to be on for
more than two minutes. Damage to the ether solenoid
may occur.
E. Select the “Override Parameters” screen on Cat
ET.
F. Activate the ether override.
G. Monitor the active diagnostic code screen on Cat
ET. Check and record any active diagnostic codes.
Note: Wait at least 30 seconds in order for the
diagnostic codes to become active.
H. Disable the ether override.
Expected Res
ult:

Results:
•
OK – The active diagnostic code is now active for
the other relay.
Repair: The problem is in the relay. Replace
the relay that causes the diagnostic code to be
generated .
STOP.

witched. Proceed to Test Step 5.

A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the connector for the suspect relay.
Install a wire jumper between terminal 2 and
terminal 5
on the connector for the relay.
C. Turn the k eyswitch to the ON position.
D. Select the “Diagnostic Tests” on C at ET.

Repair: The ECM detected the short circuit at
the relay connector. The problem must be in the
connector fo
r the suspect relay or the problem
must be in the relay assembly.
STOP.
•
Not OK – The 05 diagnostic code is still active for
the suspect r
elay. Proceed to Test Step 7.
Test Step 6. Create an Open at the
Connector for the Suspect Relay
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect
the connector for the suspect relay.
C. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.

ET. Check and record any active diagnostic codes.
Note: Wait at least 30 seconds in order for the
