Advantages:
The ability to specify the low idle rpm can be very helpful
if a different low idle rpm is needed, either to suit unique
operating conditions or if there is resonant vibration at
a specifi c rpm ( mirrors, rattles, etc. ). Lower idle rpm in
conjunction with the proper load starting technique (“no
throttle” starts) also reduces clutch wear.
Disadvantages:
Idling at higher speed increases fuel consumption and
engine wear. Every effort should be made to stay as low
as possible.
Recommendations:
✔ This adjustment is rarely required and should be
done on a case by case basis.
